Hi Loy! :)

What kind of puzzle books do you like? Sudoku? Crosswords?

I love Japanese too! My favourite is spicy tuna roll... yum! What's yours?

I didn't know you were born in Mexico! That's cool!

Was the Dark Knight any good? I was going to suggest to Steve we go see it after our hike this afternoon...

I should get you in touch with my friend Christiane, she's a law student with aspirations of being an international attorney. She just finished a co-op placement with the United Nations in Tanzania. Now she's going for another co-op placement, this time in Rwanda. Then she has a semester of school which she'll be doing at a university in Mexico, Monte-something I think, I should ask her...

I'm left handed too!!! :)

HI AMELIE! :grin2:

I love wordsearch puzzles & sudoku. Yep, I'm a nerd! :smartass:

I love all things sushi & teppan, especially the caterpillar & crunchy roll.

Yeah, I was born in Mexico, however both my parents are US citizens so as soon as the DR said it was ok for me to fly they brought me [at about 8 months] over here & havent been back, only for vacations!!

DarkKnight was pretty good, I'm not a comic loving follower but I did appreciate how sarcastic the Joke was!!!

WOW, its sounds like your friend is visiting some pretty awesome places & getting paid at the same time. You see thats what I want to do, sometimes I think I started to late, being that I'll be 29 when I get out of law school buy at the same time I'll have the rest of my life to work on my career.

Yay! Two lefties! You know whats funny? NO ONE in either side of my parents are left handed but me and my brother! Pretty wierd right?!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

BTW: CONGRATz (again) on your home!!! It's soooo cool that you guys purchased your home at such a young age.

I LOVE THE WONDER YEARS!!!! I wonder if the series is on DVD yet? I would SO buy it! Did you ever watch boy meets world?

My DAD loves King of Queens, he was pretty bummed when it ended, he has every season on DVD & watches it all the time, that and the Golden Girls. :wtf2: Wierd, I know.

We have a lot in common! I too love to cook, bake, read and plan parties!

THE WONDER YEARS ON DVD: costly music licensing

Jun 24 '07

605.jpg

How come The Wonder Years is not out on DVD yet?

The nostalgic, coming-of-age series that aired from 1988-1993, featuring the familiar narration of Daniel Stern has yet to be released in any digital format.

This is beyond disappointing for millions of fans, who wish to reclaim a part of their lives with the television show that was as profound as life itself.

The Wonder Years was my adolescence - in so many words.

The reason is the music licensing. The Wonder Years borrowed some 300 uncut, undistributed songs for it's vast array of episodes - songs that will never see the light of day under current digital rights regulations.

Back then, music licensing was as may have been as foreign as an iPod, so the creators of The Wonder Years didn't hold back. They freely selected any music that "fit the mood," and the mood is what the show was all about.

The only way this series will be released (any time soon) in a digital format is without the music.

This is sad news for fans, who are only hoping for a completely intact series to have in their own collection. You can't just remove or replace the music, and have the show be as effective as it was. The music is what resonated across adults and children alike. Every age could probably find a part of themselves in The Wonder Years.

It makes me wonder why the creators didn't realize this as they were doing it. I mean, it wasn't that long ago. They had to have had at least some notion that the music licensing would come back to haunt them.

The creators must be kicking themselves now, because not only have they possibly eliminated a source of revenue, they did a complete disservice to the fans of the show. By not allowing fans to once again see the episodes as they were presented is just wrong.

But then again, without the music that was used, the show wouldn't have been as great as it was.

So I digress.

:glare: i hope they figure it out ASAP, i need to add this to "my children must see" collection.

We do have a lot in common Loy! :)

It's good that like puzzles, my grandma always tells me it keeps the mind sharp! She has a puzzle book by her side of the couch for when my grandpa watches something she doesn't find interesting - she either works on that or her knitting.

I've never hear of the caterpillar - I'll have to check that out. I find sushi names vary a lot from location to location.

Well, that's the thing - at the moment my friend isn't getting paid for her placements, it's all volunteer work. But I'm sure it will pay off before long, not to mention the experience she's getting! And I don't think 29 isn't that late to get in the game. And then you'll be in a job you'll love...

"My children must see" list - that's really cute. It's a shame they're having a hard time for the royalties for the music. I think releasing the show on dvd would open the show (and the music) to a whole new generation. I don't know about the States but in Canada the show is very seldom on, I've had to resort to printing transcripts of the show to get my Wonder Years fix. And no, I've never seen Boy Meets World. I didn't know enough French to watch English tv when I was a kid so a lot of these shows I only discovered as a teenager or an adult. I'll try to check out an episode though!

_____________________________________________________________

Just came back from seeing The Dark Knight - loved it! I'm not a fan of comic book movies but the acting was excellent. Heath Ledger in particular was fantastic. I truly think he was one of the best actors ever; it's such a shame he's gone. :(

Marleen... Where you at hon? Looking forward to getting to know you! :grin2:

So Sorry that I was late ladies!!! It's been crazy this week. So what is everyones Favorite Margarita? Personally I like strawberry.

I love sudoku puzzles!!! Crosswords too.

Is it creepy that we are all the same height? It guess would be creepier if we were all left handed but unfortunately I'm a righty.

I love the Wonder Years too! The music licensing thing really sucks sometimes.

I love the Coldplay Album - adicted to viva la vida, strawberry swing and violet hill off the album

I like the Hard Ones but don't always finish them. I've mastered the easy ones but like to do the easy ones after a long and stressful day. Makes me feel like I've finshed/acomplished something.

I really want to be able to sit down and do the New York Times sunday crossword on sunday mornings but they are always too hard and I get frustrated.

Have you guys been watching the olympics?

The swimming has been really good. I want to see the gymnastics but it's always on too late.

By the way - I hate Bob Costas as an announcer - he's soooooo fake and annoying.

Hi Marleen! :hiya:

Your job sounds like so much fun! I would love to do something like that. Do you get to choose the exhibits or what goes in them? Do you get to plan where everything goes? What kind of museum do you work for? I'm full of questions...

Btw, my fave margarita is lime. :)

I haven't had a chance to watch the Olympics. :( I'm so disappointed, I was really looking forward to watching them. But we still haven't hooked up our tv since moving (it's almost been 2 months but we watch our shows via internet and we've been pretty busy so we haven't really had time for tv). My faves for summer olympics are running (especially 100 yards) and gymnastic. Things that don't take too long and you don't need to be glued to the tv for hours.

So ladies, what are your plans for the weekend? Tonight I have a makeup consultation at Sephora (I've been wanting to do that for a long time, it's on my list of 101 Things to do in 1001 Days, plus it's my birthday Sunday so I want to buy myself a little gift... :giggle:). After that I'm going to a friends house for a party. Then we're going to my in-laws for the rest of the weekend. They live 6 hours away so we're leaving around 5 tomorrow morning and coming back late Sunday. It's going to be a tiring weekend!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMELIE!!!! Hope you had a great time at your Makeup consultation. Have fun at your in laws.

As far as my job goes we are an independant firm - kinda like an interior design firm. We work for museums all over the country. Sometimes clients come to us but most of the time we respond to requests for proposals from museums either looking to build new exhibits or revamp existing ones.

I work in conjunction with Content Developers, Graphic Designers, Media Producers and Lighting Designers to create educational and entertaining Museum Environments. I deal mostly with the 3 Dimensional Elements that carry the content and graphics. It is basically Interior Design and Building Coordination with Architects and Engineers for Museum Spaces. The firm I work for is known for Social and Military History Projects but we are begining to do more Natural History/Visitor Center projects.

We review a museums collection and stories with the museum staff. Our Boss likes to call us storytellers.

We get to see some and sometimes touch some pretty neat stuff.

It's definitly not easy and we have alot of jobs we start but cannot be finished - usually money is to blame. But it can also be really fun and exciting.

The latest job I completed was Pilgrim Hall in Plymouth, MA - I have some links to the project in my life journal. I am currently working on a project in Tampa Florida which will hopefully open in December.

Since I went away to NY last weekend - i need to spend this weekend catching up on cleaning - fun!

:a6:HAPPY BELATED BIRFDAY AMELIE!! :a6:

How'd ur consultation go? I loooooooooove Sephora, alot. No TV? Man I would die, well not really but I'd def miss FOOD NETWORK!

- - - - - - - - - - -

AMANDA: NO! I hvnt been watching the OLYMPICS  I missed the opening ceremony & thats my favorite part. I did watch some of the mens swimming ...

- - - - - - - - - - -

SO, alot of decisions were made weekend, GOOD DECISIONS!!! (1) we decided to stay in our apt for another year! I'm so so so HAPPY! I love our apartment complex, I feel safe & my DOGS have a lots of grass to play in. (2) I decided to decorate our place, we've been living there for 1yr and have nothing hanging on the walls :yeahright: SO, I already started with they foyer and hallway. (3) WE decided to keep BELLA. Drama Alert: I had a buyer who was going to meet Bella yesterday, well Sunday night DH broke down & basically said that he wanted to keep her & that he was going to give her a chance. SO, we'll see how that goes. I hope he keeps his promise. (4) to read "Confessions of a Shopaholic" in one week, I wanna get my brain working again b4 I start LSAT courses. :goodvibes:

I start my LSAT prep classes on Saturday, I'm so nervous..... 6 weeks till my test n I'm just now getting started. I'm gonna be real busy till October 5th!

OK thats it .............. really. :postwhore:

Sounds like you've been really busy. Glad your keeping Bella but i can understand how difficult it can be.

LSAT prep does not sound like fun.

BTW: Who's Amanda?

Amelie - how did your consult and b-day weekend go?

Awww, poor Marleen! You didn't kill the thread, I just forgot about it... :shuffle:

My consultation went well! The lady gave me useful tips - I'm not much more comfortable putting on foundation, blush, bronzer and eyeshadow. And she made me discover this great blush and bronzer. I kept it reasonable though, I only bought the blush and an eyeshadow primer. (But I want to go back for the bronzer and bronzer brush... :ninja:)

Work has been very hectic these days. One of the other assistants quit suddenly to go back to school so now we're scrambling to cover for her. Plus one of the other assistants got married last Saturday and is now on holidays until the 15th. Oh well, I'm getting acting pay so it's worth it.

I'm on training for the rest of the week - I'm going to learn about records management. Oooooh! Whatever, anything to get me out of the office. And it's kinda fun really, I get to redesign the classification systems for my whole office.

Steve and I are thinking of buying new cell phones. I've had mine for over 4 years now. I'm debating whether I should get a BlackBerry. Cellphones are so complicated, there's always exceptions and fine print. Do any of you ladies have a BlackBerry? What kind? Do you like it? Do you use it a lot? What for - calls, text, email, browsing? I have to remember that I'm buying it as a long term investment - it will last me at least 3 years. I'm trying to foresee what I'd use it for over those 3+ years.

So what's up with you ladies? Marleen, I know from reading your life journal that you're very busy. I'm guessing you're busy too Loy, I don't see you much around the board. :( Have you tried a recipe from ESBM yet?

Well, good night ladies! I'm off to bed!

Glad the makeup demo went well Amelie. I don't wear makeup very often and found that getting the instruction before the wedding was really helpful but I bought a bunch of makeup that i don't wear.

I have an LG Chocolate cell phone in black - I like the slide up instead of flip up but there is a wheel on it like an i pod and i always hit it when i am on the phone and it messes with my calls. I miss my old nokia. I find that the new cell phones are so light that I end up losing them. lost 3 since my nokia.

I sometimes wish i had a blackberry but the reality is that i wouldn't use it enough. Jim has a phone that filps up to a keyboard which is kinda neat - he also has gps/mapping which is really helpful for getting out of traffic and finding our way to new locations.

I was considering a slide phone; if not a BB that's probably what I'd get. I don't have a need for a BlackBerry, it'd be more of a toy than anything else. But it'd be nice to have a full(er) keyboard and easy access to my calendar and e-mails. I need to think about it more.

:Bye: girls!

LIFE is so very busy, but I like it ... I feel alive & productive.

We ended up selling Bella :hrmm: she left on Tuesday ... it was bitter sweet. I was really picky so I know that my final choice was the best for her, the lady who bought her lives only a few miles from me so I hope to get to see Bella from time to time. Prince seems to be ok although yesterday we caught him looking for her under the couches  it was kinda sad. I'm giving him lots of attention & taking him out on more walks to make up for Bella being gone. He'll be ok. :dog:

My LSAT test is in 30 days, I'm trying not to get nervous BUT its hard not to be. I'm preparing and studying for it ... hopefully it'll be a breeze. I still have to finish up my application, get 2 recommendations, transcripts, and write a personal statement. I have until Nov. 1 to turn it all in. LOTS to do.

ALSO I can't believe that in less than 60 days DH & I will have been married for 1yr time flew ... I'm happy we made it, it was difficult but not impossible. :grin2:

- - - - - -

AM: I also have a LG Chocolate, I love it. DH has BB he uses it 24/7, I mean constantly checking emails, calendaring on PDA ect, its awesome I would love to get one BUT I really don't need that type of a phone, not yet at least. PLUS the cost of having one is HUGE (at least in US) he pays about $100 extra just on all the applications he needs working .... so it really depends on how much you plan to use it and how it will affect your bill $$$.

I've been on... lurking as usual.

I have NOT made anything from ESBM yet, I'm having friends over on Sunday & I want to cook something healthy, yet summer-y ... ANY SUGGESTIONS?!!

MARLEEN: OMG I'm sorry .... in the last post (or the one before) I mistakenly called you Amanda ... my bad! :duh: Do you use your CHOCOLATE as an mp3??

Hi Loy!!!

Alive and productive is good! Sending you positive vibes for your LSAT! Which day is it scheduled for exactly? I'll make sure to think of you. Do you feel prepared for it? And wow, that application sounds arduous! It'll be worth it though once you get accepted to Law School!

Yay for almost being your anniversary! Are you planning anything special? Maybe a dinner cruise like when you got engaged?

Awww... I feel you on Bella. It is bittersweet but you did what was best for her which is the best proof that you care for her. How cute is that about Prince looking for her under the couch! I can totally picture it! And now he'll get tons of attention. Btw, I have to say, everytime I see him in your avi I can't help but awww at how cute he is!

Well girls, I got a new cell phone! I couldn't justify the extra cost of a BB but it's fine because I got a pretty cute phone - the LG Shine.

lg_shine_open.jpg

It's a really cute phone and the screen is HUGE! I'm a little concerned that it might be too breakable for me but I'll just be extra careful. I'm glad to hear you like your LG phones though, that makes me feel better about my choice. :)

Hmmm... Healthy and summery... Well, it's not a ESBM recipe but my turkey burgers would fit the bill. That along with a salad with sundried tomatoes, olives, pesto and olive oil... Yum! Now I'm hungry.

So ladies, any plans for the weekend? My training finished early today so I was home by 3:00. :dancefool: It feels like such a treat to be home early on a Friday. Steve's out with friends tonight so I'm debating what to make for supper. I'm craving thai and I think I have some light coconut milk and red curry paste... Yep, that's what I'll do. I also want to clean up the house tonight so that I can then relax for the rest of the weekend. On Sunday morning my dad, Steve and I are helping my sister move some more of her stuff then I think we're going out for brunch. That's the only thing I have planned though and I'm so glad!!! Every weekend is always go go go and I need a break!!!

Do you guys feel the same, always on the run with a crazy busy schedule? I'm wondering if it's just me that should just say no more often. Seriously, how many days a week do you have to go out and meet people and do stuff outside of work?

Hi Ladies

Loy - sorry to hear you had to sell Bella but it was probably for the best. Good Luck on the LSATS and happy anniversary in advance.

Amelie -Congrats on the new phone! VERY nice.

I actually don't use my phone as an mp3 though I know it's possible.

Work has been sooooo busy. Getting to crunch time on the project i'm working on. I got home at 9pm tonight and worked at home for 2hrs after that. Working from home tomorrow then taking Sunday off. Hopefully Hurricane Ike will stay away from my project.

I wish I had time to socialize or just have personal time for that matter. Last month has been hard to keep work and personal life seperate.
